• Agriculture in Mozambique

Mozambique’s economy has been one of the fastest growing in the world for more than a decade, achieving positive growth even during the 2008-2010 global recession. Whilst a lot of this growth can be attributed to the mining, oil and gas, and services sectors, agriculture has also played a prominent role, making significant contributions to GDP, exports, job creation and food security. With between 70% and 80% of Mozambique’s population living in rural areas, and with most of them depending on agricultural activities for their livelihood, the role that agriculture can play in transforming Mozambique into a sustainably prosperous country cannot be over-emphasised.
