Every successful event needs a great Master of Ceremonies to keep things moving according to schedule and importantly to keep audiences engaged. In Malawi, one of the most popular MCs currently is Judith Msonthi, founder of Judie Emcee, bringing her unique style and personality to enliven any event.
What does your company do?
My company is a startup that offers Presenter/ Host and Master of Ceremonies services for corporate, social and festival events.
What inspired you to start your company?
I was inspired to start my company after I left my full-time job at one of the leading television stations as a TV presenter. I left the job because I decided to go back to university and get my degree, but while doing that I knew I need some sort of way to keep myself busy while not taking too much of my time at school. I began by pitching myself to a few people who were organizing a fashion show, persuading them that I would be the best suited person to host (emcee) the fashion show. Thereafter I was getting booked left and right, to the point that it is now a business.
Why should anyone use your service or product?
My service is the best you can get in Malawi, with first class spoken English, an amazing bubbly, friendly personality; I am the emcee you have been looking for. Professionally I am a tv presenter who has led two prime-time television shows, anchored for tv news and radio. I am very comfortable in front of an audience, which makes talking to a room and crowd filled with strangers my speciality. I am rapidly breaking ground on local and international media platforms.
Tell us a little about your team
As of now there is no team. I manage myself and run everything myself.
Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?
Unfortunately I do not come from an entrepreneurial background. I did not even know that this could be a business that would have people looking for my services each and every month. I still think I am in the start-up phase but I do intend on growing and expanding my business in the future.
What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?
The future for "Judy Emcee" is to have a team of all women emcees, DJs and event coordinators. Malawi lacks female emcees, making it seem as if this is a man’s job. I hope to have an emcees service covering weddings, corporate and social events.
What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?
The satisfaction of being my own boss, coordinating what fits me, and being able to handle things myself.
What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?
Do not be afraid of your dreams, everything you are dreaming of is going to come true. The catch is, you just have to really want it.
