Brussels — Today, the HR/VP Federica Mogherini met the President of Mozambique, Mr Filipe Nyusi, during his official visit in the EU. The meeting continued the dialogue initiated in Maputo, during the HR/VP's visit in Mozambique in February, on the main areas of EU-Mozambique relations. The European Union and Mozambique have long-standing and broad partnership and there is commitment on both sides to deepen these further.
They discussed the challenges posed by the renewed conflicts in Mozambique which affect the people, economic development and democratic stability. The HR/VP underlined that it is important that a framework for a political solution be agreed upon and commended President Nyusi's commitment towards restoring a trustful and peaceful environment conducive to effective negotiated solution. President Nyusi also welcomed the EU's engagement in supporting Mozambique to overcome the current crisis.
The HR/VP recalled that the EU is ready to support Mozambique's efforts to bring an immediate end to all forms of political violence and to support Mozambican engagement for a renewed and sustainable political consensus. Both sides discussed how our cooperation can contribute to the sustainable and inclusive growth needed to overcome Mozambique's development challenges, on the basis of partnership, transparency and mutual trust.
