Pop Star Rihanna Meets Lilongwe Girls Secondary School Students During Malawi Charity Trip

Pop globe super star r Robyn Rihanna Fenty travelled to Malawi on behalf of her Clara Lionel Foundation and on Friday met students of Lilongwe Girls Secondary school in Malawi's capital. The 28-year-old in a make-up free and wearing a practical outfit of shirt and trousers, toured the classrooms and met with the students as the ambassador for Global Citizen and the Global Partnership for Education. The "work, work, work," singer was also spotted with Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans as well as Julia Gillard, Global Partnership for Education's board of director's chairperson. When people learnt of her visit, social media was awash with photos of the pop star which went viral.

Malawi: Sky Band Brings Free Wi-Fi Internet in Karonga

The Malawi leading internet provider 'Sky Band Cooperation Limited' has brought free Wi-Fi internate services in Karonga the northern border part of Malawi as one way of enhancing easy online use. The organization has provided this in different Lodges as well as Karonga Museum. Sky Band Cooperation Limited has also donated a K600, 000 modern roadblock at Mwenilondo along Karonga-Mzuzu M1 road in the area of the lawmaker Frank Mwenefumbo. Speaking during the launch of the project, the company's Corperate Networks Manager Daffy Chikakuda said the decision follows an appeal madevby Mwenefumbo.

"Honorable Mwenefumbo approached us that the roadblock was outdated hence compromising the security," said Chikakuda. While appreciating the internet provider for the donation, Mwenefumbo asked other companies in the country to emulate what Sky Band has done. "You know the country have numbers of roadblocks so for the company to select the roadblock of my area it is not a joke," said Mwenefumbo. He said the new roadblock will tighten the security than before. Meanwhile, Sky Band has promised more development to the area.

Liberty expands into Botswana and Malawi

SA’s number four insurer, Liberty Holdings, will buy stakes in two unlisted short-term insurers in Malawi and Botswana as part of its planned expansion into the rest of Africa, the company said on Wednesday. Liberty will buy Botswana short-term insurer Prefsure and take a majority stake in Malawi-based private short-term insurer Charter Insurance Company, Liberty said in a statement. Financial details about the transactions were not disclosed. The acquisitions form part of Liberty’s strategy of growth into Africa, which has a growing number of people who can invest in insurance to protect their wealth and assets.

"Liberty aims to become one of the leading insurers in the growing East, Central and Southern African regions," said Liberty CEO Thabo Dloti. Charter has a 5% market share in Malawi while Prefsure services Botswana’s retail consumer market. Liberty is majority-owned by Standard Bank, which has also expanded its presence on the continent in recent years.
