Emerging Markets Streaming Video Company Iflix Launches In Ghana

Malaysian subscription streaming video service iflix, which is focused on emerging markets, has officially launched its services in Ghana as part of the company’s expansion into Africa. Customers in Ghana will now be able to sign up for the video-on-demand services from the Netflix competitor, which is focused on the lower end of the streaming market, launching its operations with mobile networks as partners. A single month of unlimited access to Iflix TV content, which includes series and movies will cost $2.4, and a discounted annual subscription will cost $19.4 per year, according to ITNewsAfrica.

Ghana Completes Radio Telescope Conversion For Square Kilometre Array

In an important milestone for the Square Kilometre Array project, Ghana has successfully converted a redundant telecommunications antenna into a functioning radio telescope. The 32m converted telecommunications antenna at the Ghana Intelsat Satellite Earth Station at Kutunse is now operational as a very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) radio telescope, forming part of plans for the Square Kilometre Array, according to ITWeb. This development is part of preparations for the second phase of the project, which will see the continued construction of the Square Kilometre Array radio telescope, the largest of its kind on the planet, across the African continent.

Ghanaian New Media Company Raises $1.1M In Quest To Become ‘BuzzFeed Of Africa’

Ghanaian new media startup OMG Digital has raised $1.1 million in seed funding that will be used to help fulfill their growing reputation as the ‘BuzzFeed of Africa’. OMG Voice, the primary website run by the group, currently operates with versions in Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya, and the new investment will go towards expanding the footprint of the brand to additional African territories. Known as the ‘BuzzFeed of Africa’ due to the company’s focus on creating content for millennials, the tech startup creates and curates listicles, pictorials, videos and memes with an African audience in mind, according to Techpoint.
