Batwa Community From Bururi Recognize Their Development Thanks to World Bank Project

As the world celebrated the day dedicated to poverty eradication this October 17th, Batwa communities from Bururi commune acknowledge the World Bank's project to protect environment which has given them job and joy to live. Batwa people used to live in extreme poverty, begging, and sometimes stealing which also affected their relationship with their neighbours. "As a wife and mother of four children, the future of my family was bleak. We had nowhere to live or cultivate," says Odette Nkurikiye from AGI community. Thanks to a project of the World Bank to protect environment, all of them have got jobs and are hopeful for their future. "Now I can work and earn money. My children can go to school and I am also able to save for the future" says Ndacayisaba Christian, A mutwa from AGI community.

Tanzania: 80mw Power Project to Benefit Three Countries

OVER 7,000 households in Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi are set to benefit from 80 megawatts of electricity from the Rusumo Falls hydro-electric project along Kagera River whose ground-breaking ceremony is set for today. Tanzania's Minister for Energy and Minerals, Prof Sospeter Muhongo and his Rwanda and Burundian counterparts are expected to grace the ground-breaking event scheduled at the Tanzania-Rwanda border. Each partner state will have a share of 26.6MW to be connected to their national power grids. The project is as well meant to strengthen the regional power interconnections between the three countries, which are also member states of the East African Community (EAC).

Burundi: Metropolitan Area Network Launched in Capital Bujumbura

Alongside the official inauguration of digital television, Burundi President, Pierre Nkurunziza, has introduced the optical fibre Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) on this 19 December 2016. The event marked an important step towards the increase of the penetration of information and communication technologies that Nestor Bankumukunzi, the Minister in charge of information and communication technologies, said to be "unsatisfactory" in Burundi. "The MAN will offer a quality service that is unparalleled so far. It has been conceived to be the difference", said the Minister.
