Botswana: Government Keen On Technology

Botswana is keen in investing in technology to ensure optimal utilisation for the people of the country said Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi. In order to achieve this goal the NDP 11 had indicated strategy and initiatives to further increase investment and research activities towards the economy of the country. For a high performing economy the Vice president of NDP 11 said research is of vital importance. So exploitation and understanding are the key to further this revolution of technology.  Mr Masisi said he expects materials to increase directly or indirectly till 2030. He also said the AMRS had been created for Africans living in the continent and abroad to focus on the field of science and technology.

Botswana: Ministry, World Bank Committs to Education Reforms

The Ministry of Basic Education (MOBE) and the World Bank are prepared to work together on implementing critical education reforms that will benefit the economy of Botswana. This was revealed by officials of the two institutions during a workshop at the University of Botswana in Gaborone on Wednesday, subsequent to the release of a World Bank report titled, 'Job-ready Graduates of Secondary Education in Botswana, Lesotho and Zambia.' MOBE permanent secretary, Ms Grace Muzila told the gathering that the World Bank recommendations of the report are in agreement with the direction government wants to pursue in the education sector.

Botswana Makes Strides in Health Care System - Masisi

Vice President, Mr Mokgwetsi Masisi says Botswana has made 'tremendous' strides in improving the health care system. Speaking during World Health Organisation (WHO) regional director, Dr Matshidiso Moeti's courtesy call on the Office of the President yesterday, Mr Masisi indicated that Botswana was going through a transformation stage to create working groups within communities to see how best to intergrade health policies and the society. Mr Masisi noted that government however kept on identifying new challenges of alcohol and drug abuse that continued to emerge.

Tourism Company Plans Bid For Botswana’s National Airline In Privatization Plan

 

Botswana’s largest tourism company, Wilderness Safaris, is planning to make an official offer to purchase the country’s national airline, Air Botswana, with the government looking to privatize the loss-making state-owned enterprise. In February this year the Botswana government put the airline up for tender, publishing an expression of interest invitation in the media in order to attract interested parties who would like to bid, according to the Sunday Standard.
