NDDC Explores Partnerships for Modular Refineries

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Nsima Ekere, is leading a delegation to this year's Oil Technology Conference to explore partnership opportunities in modular refineries for the Niger Delta region. The conference, which is holding in Houston, United States, from May 1- 4, will bring together leading professionals and players in the global oil and gas industry. Mr. Ekere said in a press statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday that NDDC was attending the conference as it prepared to implement Federal Government's proposal to replace thousands of illegal refining facilities scattered across the region with modular refineries.

Niger has some of the world’s largest deposits of uranium, which is mostly used by the nuclear industry. The biggest hope for economic supremacy in Niger lies in the oil reserves, with China being the biggest investor in this area, the government hopes to develop this sector to have a more significant impact economically. Although often caught in the plight of drought, the domestic economy centres around agriculture, mainly in the raising of livestock.
